MANASQUAN, NJ – “How Millions of Dollars in Physician Bonus Incentives Linked to Improving Quality of Care May Be The Answer for Managed Care,” a new audio conference that will examine what’s fueling the emerging trend that could pay out up to $100 million based on performance results.
The senior-level tele-briefing, sponsored by the Managed Care Information Center, has been scheduled for June 23, 1:30-3:00 p.m. eastern time. The speaker panel will examine how the new pay for performance (P4P) trend will affect MCOs, employers and health plan members.
Speakers Beau Carter, health policy and strategy consultant for Med-Vantage Inc., and Dr. Jeff Kamil, vice president and medical director for Blue Cross of California, will address topics including:
- Overview of currently available physician incentive programs.
- What’s working today.
- Characteristics of successful programs.
- Details on new quality of care and patient satisfaction programs.
- Sources for assistance in setting up a P4P program.
- Where P4P is headed.
A live question and answer session will follow the panel presentations.
The pay for performance trend is picking up steady and has been embraced by providers and health plans.
Some $28 million in physician bonus incentives was paid out to 80 participating physician groups by Blue Cross of California, Thousand Oaks, Calif., on the basis of using the new quality scorecard. In addition, Health Net, Blue Cross of Michigan and Aetna are among the health plans embracing P4P programs.
IHA estimates that up to $100 million or more could be paid out to physician groups in the first year based on the performance results. By participating in the audio conference, members of physician groups and health plans will learn how to implement P4P and reap the benefits of these programs.
